Nature's Inspiration for SETAGRIP™
Nature has already solved many of the problems we are grappling with; animals, plants, and microbes are the consummate engineers. Geckos have no difficulty mastering vertical walls and are capable of adhering themselves to just about any surface using hair like bristles called setae. Much like the gecko, Setagrip™ seems able to defy gravity. In fact, if you press it onto a wall, it will stick.
How Does It Work?
Setagrip™ uses millions of micro-sized pores, vacuum and negative fluid pressure to securely adhere any object to a flat, non-porous surface. When the flooring is pressed against the surface, the pores act like millions of miniature suction cups and create a large vacuum, generating a strong suction force that can hold a tremendous amount of weight.
This is very different to the common ‘looselay’ systems that rely on a non-adhesive tread pattern to stay in place, which in many installations, does not work, and actually requires the use of adhesive or double sided tape to prevent movement. Setagrip™ is an an entirely new concept in the installation of floors without adhesives and allows easy removal without residue, making it reusable.
Why Does This Matter?
Although it may not be obvious, having no adhesives is a big deal. If for some reason a single plank becomes damaged, you can easily pry it up with a putty knife and replace it in minutes. Unlike traditional glue down systems, there will be no messy residue to deal with. For click systems, if a single plank is damaged, the entire plank from wall to wall will need to be removed.
The other advantage of not having to use adhesives is that it is safer. Adhesives emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde that are hazardous to one’s health. Additionally, since Setagrip™ floors use 100% virgin vinyl, there are almost zero VOCs and phthalates in the product, making a safe and durable flooring for hospitals, assisted living facilities and homes.
